Barbara Lyons Stewart, AIA, EDAC, is an Architect and Interior Designer with a specialty in the Ancient and Modern Forms of Environmental Psychology, ranging from Feng Shui to Evidence Based Design. She has developed 18 Instinct-Based Design Principles based upon multicultural lessons from the distant past as well as current scientific research to help her clients create spaces that will make their staff and patients more comfortable, productive and healthy.

DESIGN PSYCHOLOGY CONSULTING EXPERIENCE
Barbara's consulting experience advising large healthcare organizations and their project architects and designers includes Kaiser Permanente's $900 million Oakland Medical Center (with NBBJ Architects) their San Leandro Medical Center (with Ellerbe Architects)and their Capitol Hill Medical Center in Washington DC (with Hawley Peterson & Snyder Architects). Barbara provides recommendations from the Patient / Staff perspective and research on healthcare design psychology topics. She received her Evidence Based Design Accreditation and Certification (EDAC) from the Center for Health Design in late 2009.

ARCHITECTURE / INTERIOR DESIGN EXPERIENCE
Barbara's architectural / interior design clients include corporations and professional firms like ABC/7-Disney, Wild Planet Toys, Pacific Union Commercial Real Estate, Anshen+Allen Architects and the LEED Gold Office of the San Francisco Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

Prior to founding Lyons Stewart Architects in 1992 she worked for nationally recognized firms including Ellerbe and SOM. She received a Masters in Architecture Degree from the University of Minnesota and is a licensed architect in the states of Illinois and California.

FENG SHUI EXPERIENCE
Barbara has studied both Compass School and Black Sect Feng Shui with Vincent Smith, Alex Stark, Roger Green & Yasha Jampolsky, and Sacred Geometry with Michael Rice. She is a Certified Feng Shui Practitioner and a graduate of The Golden Gate School of Feng Shui in Marin County, California.

She co-authored "Feng Shui: A Practical Guide for Architects and Designers" with Vincent Smith, published by Kaplan in 2006 and available in bookstores and the typical online sources.

With Panergetics, a national Feng Shui consulting firm, Barbara provided feng shui design recommendations and analysis to clients including Kaiser Permanente, The Olson Companies and Sutter Health Hospitals.

Barbara recently completed The Republic of Tea's new corporate offices in Novato California, for whom she provided complete architectural, interior design and feng shui services in Hangar 5 at the Hamilton Airforce Base. Other feng shui design clients include Wild Planet Toys, Meridian Art Gallery, Torchiana Mastrov & Sapiro,and the Pequinot, Rubin and Berner Residences.

Barbara has given seminars on the topic "Enrich the Lives of your Corporate, Residential and Health Care Clients with Feng Shui" to groups including:
- The American Institute of Architects Conventions in Los Angeles, San Antonio and Minneapolis
- Women in Real Estate (WIRE) San Francisco
- Architectural Firms: Chong Partners, Anshen + Allen, and Booth/Nichols

Her article on the same topic appeared in Medical Construction and Design Magazine in August 2006. She is the feng shui design expert in the "Ask the Experts" column for the Pure Contemporary online magazine.

Barbara has given Instinct-Based Design seminars focused on Healthcare Design Psychology to the Smithgroup and Stantec Architects among others.

Barbara will be happy to collaborate with individuals, architects and organizations with projects of all types and sizes who would like to incorporate feng shui or Instinct-Based Design in their new or renovation projects.
