From the Get Acquainted Rooms that feature hand-painted murals to the big room where pets and humans soon will take yoga classes together, at the open house at the Humane Society Silicon Valley's new 48,000-square-foot shelter, dogs and people alike were making a joyful noise that sounded a lot like barking. This is the first animal shelter in the U.S. to be certified gold under the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating system and has Feng Shui certification as well. The 4th International Conference on Scientific Feng Shui & Built Environment took place in Hong Kong on 20 February 2009. Many academics, architects and practitioners met to share their research and practical application in the field of Feng Shui for the build environment. This year’s theme was “Design Harmony” and addressed the increasing interest for architects, building professionals and other property practitioners to apply the concepts of Feng Shui in building design.
