What is that Smell

Our spaces evoke all the senses.  Smell is a particularly powerful sense – not just when trying to sell a home – but for living and breathing in your spaces as well.  See how Steve Kodad uses the sense of smell when staging, selling, and living!

One of the many reasons I love Feng Shui is the psychology. There are Yang rooms and Yin rooms. There are Yang colors and Yin colors. There are even Yang foods and Yin foods. And each of them creates a feeling for us humans.

That “feeling” is what we are after. We want a person to feel their ever-lasting best as often as possible. Sure life, sometimes, gets in the way….does it ever. But Feng Shui can bring you back to “center” quicker and allow you to move on easier.

Our sense of smell is often taken for granted until we smell a bunch of cookies baking or an aroma which reminds us of that someone special. This particular sense is the one that creates the most emotional impact for us and generates positive (and yes sometimes negative) memories. Scientists have known for a long time our “sniffer” is directly connected with the Limbic part of our brain….the oldest part.

When transforming an environment for business, play, or just plain living, the smell has a profound effect on what goes on. When selling a home, or even if not, making sure the aroma is easily identifiable is of paramount importance. Not changing the smell from room to room is also a great tactic.

I always, when selling, used a Yang aroma (like cinnamon or citrus) in 90% of the house and then changed it to a Yin aroma (like lavender) in the master bedroom and had great results. I always wanted the master to come off as some place different….an environment that was for restoration or romance….and not for doing the taxes or watching TV. This works wonders for everyone who is not moving also!

Steve KodadSteve Kodad uses Feng Shui in nearly everything he does – from selling and staging to education and more.  As a realtor and Feng Shui expert, he has been training other realtors for decades and is the co-founder of Intrinsic School of Feng Shui.

Steve has long been in the business of buying and selling – and has been incorporating Feng Shui into the process for nearly as long.  Feng Shui is a natural fit with the real estate and home staging world.  So if you are a realtor or are getting ready to list or purchase a home, we have a series of buying and selling articles that can help get you set up for success.
